Stripe Rust Protein Pst4121 Blocks Wheat Energy-Regulating Enzyme TaSnRK1.3 to Help Infection

Updated

Abstract

Pst4121, an effector protein from Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, is significantly upregulated during infection.

  • Pst4121 can inhibit basic immune responses in plants.
  • Reducing Pst4121 levels weakens the virulence of the pathogen.
  • Pst4121 is essential for effective infection and pathogenicity in wheat.
  • Pst4121 interacts with wheat SNF1-related kinase TaSnRK1α family members, especially TaSnRK1.3.
  • The interaction between Pst4121 and TaSnRK1.3 decreases the protein kinase activity of TaSnRK1.3.
  • This mechanism may disrupt the regulatory network involved in disease resistance in wheat.
