TFEB controls PER3 levels through glucose-related effects on the body's clock proteins CLOCK and BMAL1

Abstract

TFEB regulates PER3 expression through the CLOCK/BMAL1 complex in a circadian manner.

  • TFEB expression in the liver shows circadian rhythms.
  • Loss of TFEB function disrupts and dampens PER3 expression without affecting other circadian genes.
  • TFEB interacts physically with the CLOCK/BMAL1 complex.
  • In the presence of TFEB, transcription mediated by BMAL1/CLOCK is enhanced.
  • The TFEB/CLOCK/BMAL1 complex is influenced by glucose levels.
