Time-restricted eating and low-carb diet's links to mental well-being and appetite in people with metabolic syndrome

Updated

Abstract

A total of 162 participants were analyzed after 3 months of intervention.

  • Time-restricted eating (TRE) significantly decreased GLP-1 levels and increased pancreatic polypeptide levels.
  • TRE improved physical and social functioning, as well as role-physical and role-emotional aspects of quality of life.
  • TRE further increased general health compared to a low-carbohydrate diet (LCD).
  • Changes in sleep quality, mood status, appetite, and metabolic hormones did not differ among the TRE, LCD, and TRE + LCD groups.
  • Greater weight loss was associated with decreased leptin and amylin levels, reduced appetite scores, and improved general health.
