Tirzepatide shows early blood sugar and heart-related health benefits in Indian adults with type 2 diabetes

Abstract

Mean glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) decreased significantly from 8.7% to 6.9% after 12 weeks of tirzepatide treatment.

  • 59.2% of participants achieved an HbA1c level below 7% at three months.
  • Average body weight decreased by 4.7 kg, representing a 5.7% reduction.
  • Systolic blood pressure showed a significant reduction of 5.6 mmHg.
  • Total cholesterol decreased by 16.6 mg/dL, with improvements also noted in LDL and HDL cholesterol levels.
  • The FIB-4 index, an indicator of liver health, decreased from 1.24 to 1.08.
  • Gastrointestinal adverse events were reported in 59.2% of patients, mainly mild to moderate, with a treatment discontinuation rate of 22.2%.
