Using virus-like fatty molecules to deliver genetic material into cartilage for osteoarthritis treatment

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A virus-inspired lipopeptide nanoparticle platform improved cartilage RNA delivery and reduced -like cartilage damage in mice.

Evidence

This formulation and preclinical platform study screened lipopeptide nanoparticles in vitro, found VPN-2 produced about 2.5-fold higher transfection than conventional lipid nanoparticles, and tested a ROS-responsive nano-in-gel system in surgical ACTL and PTOA mouse models.

Caveat

The therapeutic evidence is limited to engineered delivery assays and mouse osteoarthritis models, with no human cartilage or clinical outcome data.
