How Yi-guan-jian herbal medicine may improve thinking problems in type 2 diabetes

Abstract

YGJ significantly improved cognitive function in T2DM rats, as indicated by reduced escape latency and increased platform crossing frequency in the Morris water maze test.

  • Insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia were significantly alleviated in T2DM rats treated with YGJ.
  • Levels of inflammatory factors in serum and hippocampus decreased following YGJ treatment.
  • YGJ regulated the abundance of gut microorganisms linked to bile acid metabolism, including Romboutsia and Bacteroides.
  • The decoction influenced bile acid metabolism by modulating intestinal receptors FXR, PXR, VDR, and TGR5.
  • These findings suggest that YGJ may have a role in improving glucose homeostasis and neuroinflammation in T2DM.
