Different Risks of Bile Duct Side Effects Among GLP-1 Diabetes Drugs Based on FDA Safety Reports

Updated

Abstract

A total of 3460 adverse event reports were analyzed across five glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs).

  • Exenatide and tirzepatide had lower reporting for bile duct stone compared to semaglutide, with reporting ratios of 0.39 and 0.58, respectively.
  • Lower reporting for biliary colic was observed with exenatide and dulaglutide, showing ratios of 0.30 and 0.50.
  • Dulaglutide was associated with higher reporting for cholangitis, with a reporting ratio of 1.65.
  • Exenatide, liraglutide, and tirzepatide showed higher reporting for both cholecystitis and cholelithiasis, with ratios ranging from 1.05 to 1.33.
  • Consistent variations in adverse event reporting were noted, particularly for bile duct stone and biliary colic.
