Daily cycle of temperature preference and its brain control in fruit flies
Updated
Abstract
Drosophila exhibit a daily circadian clock-dependent temperature preference rhythm (TPR) that resembles mammalian body temperature rhythm (BTR).
- Ectotherms like Drosophila regulate body temperature behaviorally rather than through internal energy.
- The dorsal neuron 2 s (DN2s) is identified as sufficient for TPR, independent of pacemaker neurons involved in locomotor activity.
- The control of TPR in Drosophila may share mechanisms with the regulation of BTR in mammals.
- This study introduces a novel DN2-based neural circuit that specifically regulates TPR.
