Ingestion of a fructose-maltodextrin solution reduced mountain-bike race time by 1.8%.

  • Multiple carbohydrate transporters may enhance endurance performance compared to single transporters.
  • Abdominal cramps decreased by 8.1 points on a 0-100 scale with the fructose-maltodextrin solution.
  • The positive effect of fructose-maltodextrin on lap time was partially explained by gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Mean sprint power was improved by 1.4% with fructose-maltodextrin, while the effect on peak power was uncertain.
  • Adjusting for gastrointestinal discomfort increased the impact on mean sprint power to 2.6%.
