Obesity facts

The role of daily timing preferences in obesity

Updated

Abstract

Evening is associated with an increased risk of developing obesity and related health issues.

  • Individuals with evening chronotype tend to lead unhealthy lifestyles characterized by sedentary behavior and high consumption of unhealthy foods.
  • Sleep disturbances are frequently observed in subjects with evening chronotype, which may contribute to obesity risk.
  • Alterations in hormone levels and metabolic functions, such as increased leptin secretion and impaired insulin sensitivity, are noted in evening chronotype individuals.
  • Current evidence linking evening chronotype to obesity-related cancers is limited to breast, prostate, and endometrial cancer.
  • Assessment of chronotype could provide valuable information regarding additional risk factors for obesity-related comorbidities.
