Feeding grape leftovers and its effects on metabolism in young rats eating a high-fructose diet

Updated

Abstract

Inclusion of grape pomace at 5.0% of diet reduced fasting plasma glucose and insulin levels in high fructose-fed rats.

  • High fructose-fed rats showed reduced food intake and smaller body size compared to control animals.
  • Feeding grape pomace led to a decrease in postprandial plasma triglycerides to levels similar to control animals.
  • Grape pomace improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in high fructose-fed rats.
  • No significant changes in heart or kidney weight were observed across all diet groups.
  • The higher level of grape pomace resulted in a slightly better modulation of metabolic parameters than the lower level.
