Abstract
GLP-1 receptor agonists may reduce major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) while lowering systemic inflammatory biomarkers.
- Obesity and type 2 diabetes are prevalent among individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- GLP-1 receptor agonists are associated with a reduction in MACE.
- These medications could also lower systemic inflammatory biomarkers.
- Observational data indicate that GLP-1 receptor agonists may be safe for IBD patients, with fewer hospitalizations and surgeries.
- Carefully designed prospective trials are warranted to further investigate these findings.
