Use of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Drugs and Body Weight Trends in Obese Adults with Type 2 Diabetes, Considering Heart Disease, 2010-2015

Updated

Abstract

Only 0.13% of 121,266 outpatient visits involved a GLP-1 prescription from 2010 to 2015.

  • GLP-1 receptor agonists were prescribed infrequently among obese adults with type 2 diabetes in US outpatient settings.
  • Patients using GLP-1 agonists had a significantly higher body mass index (BMI) compared to nonusers.
  • There was no consistent increase in GLP-1 prescriptions over the study period.
  • Factors such as age, sex, race/ethnicity, insurance type, and cardiovascular conditions were significantly linked to BMI.
