Links Between Diabetes Drugs and Menstrual Changes in Women of Reproductive Age

Updated

Abstract

Semaglutide showed a broad signal profile for menstrual outcomes in female patients aged 12-55 years.

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding, intermenstrual bleeding, menstrual clots, oligomenorrhea, and anovulatory cycles were reported more frequently in patients using semaglutide.
  • Tirzepatide was associated with intermenstrual bleeding and menstrual clots.
  • Liraglutide did not produce significant signals related to menstrual outcomes.
  • The findings indicate potential effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists on menstrual physiology.
  • These results may indicate the need for menstrual health discussions in counseling reproductive-aged patients.
