How light-sensitive eye cells affect eye length changes caused by blurred vision in young adults
Updated
Abstract
The post-illumination pupil response (PIPR) was significantly stronger after 2 hours of hyperopic defocus.
- Stimulation of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) with blue light enhances pupil constriction in response to hyperopic defocus.
- A lower PIPR at 6 and 30 seconds and a larger area under the curve (AUC) was observed after hyperopic defocus compared to baseline.
- Short-wavelength light exposure significantly increased axial length changes associated with hyperopic defocus, indicating a stronger ocular response.
- No significant effects on axial length were noted with myopic defocus for either wavelength of light.
