New Life's Essential 8 score linked to overall and heart-related death risk in people with high blood pressure

Updated

Abstract

Over an average follow-up of 7.41 years, 1,482 (17.54%) of 8,448 hypertensive participants died.

  • Higher total cardiovascular health (CVH) scores are associated with a 37% reduced risk of mortality from all causes compared to lower scores.
  • Participants with moderate and high total CVH scores had adjusted hazard ratios for cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific mortality of 0.76 and 0.54, respectively.
  • Every 10-point increase in the LE8 index score is linked to a 9% reduction in the risk of all-cause mortality and an 18% reduction in CVD-specific mortality.
  • A linear dose-response relationship exists between LE8 scores and both all-cause and CVD-specific mortality.
  • Similar patterns were noted regarding the relationship between health behaviors and mortality outcomes.
