Sleep Timing Questionnaire for People Who Work Shifts

Updated

Abstract

The distribution of mid-sleep times for shift-workers is identical to that of day-workers.

  • Sleep in shift-workers is challenging to start and maintain due to work constraints.
  • Chronotype can be assessed for shift-workers using a specific mid-sleep time called MSF(E).
  • On average, shift-workers maintain stable sleep times on free days between midnight and 0900 h.
  • Free-day sleep times are slightly affected by the previous shift, with displacements of less than 1 hour.
  • The new Munich ChronoType Questionnaire (MCTQ(Shift)) was validated against daily sleep logs and actimetry.
