Remimazolam’s effectiveness in preventing confusion after surgery: a review and combined analysis

Updated

Abstract

Remimazolam reduced the risk of postoperative delirium (POD) by 70% in patients receiving saline compared to placebo.

  • A total of 1985 participants across 11 trials were analyzed for the occurrence of POD.
  • 309 cases of POD were recorded during the follow-up period.
  • No significant difference in POD risk was found when comparing remimazolam to dexmedetomidine or propofol.
  • Remimazolam significantly decreased the risk of hypotension compared to dexmedetomidine and propofol.
  • There were no significant differences in the rates of bradycardia or nausea and vomiting between remimazolam and the control groups.
