Links between heart health, breast cancer risk, and death based on genetic breast cancer risk
Updated
Abstract
High cardiovascular health scores are associated with a 22% lower risk of breast cancer incidence and a 43% lower risk of breast cancer mortality among postmenopausal women.
- Among postmenopausal women, those with a high cardiovascular health score had a significantly decreased risk of breast cancer incidence and mortality compared to those with a low score.
- No significant association was found between cardiovascular health scores and breast cancer among premenopausal women.
- In high genetic risk groups, a high cardiovascular health score was linked to a 28% decrease in breast cancer incidence and a 71% decrease in mortality.
- No significant associations were observed in low genetic risk groups regarding cardiovascular health scores.
- Postmenopausal women with low cardiovascular health scores and high genetic risk showed a substantially increased risk of breast cancer incidence.
