Abstract
Uptake of labelled arachidonic acid into the ovary of the crab was significantly greater than in other tissues.
- Prostaglandin H synthase activity increased in the ovary during the late vitellogenic stage compared to immature ovary.
- Different prostaglandins were biosynthesized in the ovary throughout the crab's reproductive cycle.
- Injection of prostaglandin F(2alpha) and prostaglandin E(2) led to a significant dose-dependent increase in ovarian index and oocyte diameter.
- Prostaglandin D(2) did not influence ovarian growth.
