Tirzepatide and the risk of new aortic valve narrowing in people with obesity

Updated

Abstract

Tirzepatide, a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, may offer greater metabolic and anti-inflammatory benefits than conventional GLP-1 receptor agonists.

  • Obesity is a significant risk factor for developing degenerative aortic stenosis (AS).
  • No pharmacologic therapy has been proven to prevent the onset of AS.
  • The potential impact of tirzepatide on the risk of incident AS is currently unknown.
