Weight loss and heart health after metabolic surgery with incretin-based treatments in the US

Updated

Abstract

Weight loss and major adverse cardiovascular events were evaluated in individuals who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery and received incretin-based therapy.

  • Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is commonly associated with challenges in long-term weight management.
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) and dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists (GIP/GLP-1RA) may serve as helpful adjunctive therapies following MBS.
  • The impact of incretin-based therapy on weight loss and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in this population is of growing interest.
