DAG transport by ATG2A brings in DGAT2 to help lipid droplets grow

Updated

Abstract

Essence

ATG2A may help grow by moving to droplets and thereby recruiting DGAT2 for synthesis at the droplet surface.

Evidence

This mechanistic lipid-biology study combined ATG2A-deficiency, DGAT2-relocation, DGAT2-inhibition, and in vitro DAG-recruitment experiments to test lipid droplet expansion.

Caveat

The findings define a cellular mechanism for lipid droplet growth but do not establish tissue-level or disease-level consequences.
