Body Weight and Fat Changes in Patients Using GLP-1 Medicines During Intensive Heart Rehab

Updated

Abstract

Among 468 patients, GLP-1 receptor agonist use during intensive cardiac rehabilitation was not associated with significant changes in skeletal muscle mass.

  • Patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists had higher body mass index and percent body fat at baseline compared to non-users.
  • Both groups improved their physical fitness levels during the rehabilitation program.
  • No significant differences were observed in the percent change of skeletal muscle mass between GLP-1 RA users and non-users.
  • Similarly, fat mass changes did not differ significantly between the two groups.
  • The findings suggest that GLP-1 receptor agonists can be safely integrated with structured exercise programs without impacting muscle mass.
