Wound Healing Using a Chitosan and Aloe Vera Mix with Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Tested in Lab and Live Models

Abstract

ZnO nanoparticles were produced with an average particle size of 33 nm.

  • The composite gel containing chitosan, aloe vera, and zinc oxide nanoparticles demonstrated enhanced antimicrobial effects.
  • Significant wound area reduction was observed in the group treated with the composite gel compared to the negative control at day 21.
  • Histopathological analysis indicated improved collagen deposition and epitheliogenesis in the treatment group relative to the control.
  • Collagen deposition was measured at 76.6 ± 3.3 in the treatment group versus 46.2 ± 3.7 in the negative control.
  • Epitheliogenesis was observed at 3 ± 0.9 in the treatment group compared to 0.8 ± 0.8 in the negative control.
