Abstract
Eighty-four hours of voluntary abstinence from gaming resulted in a 50% reduction in maladaptive gaming cognitions for 63% of participants with Internet gaming disorder.
- Abstinence led to a reduction in the number of hours spent gaming.
- A clinically significant improvement in Internet gaming disorder symptoms was observed in 75% of participants at 28-day follow-up.
- Total compliance was achieved with the abstinence protocol, and no participants dropped out of the study.
- Maladaptive gaming cognitions improved reliably for 63% of the Internet gaming disorder group, aligning their scores with those of non-IGD participants by the end of the follow-up.
