Adding GLP-1 Receptor Drugs to SGLT2 Inhibitor Treatment in Chronic Kidney Disease

Updated

Abstract

Evidence supporting combined GLP-1 receptor agonists and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors in patients with chronic kidney disease is limited.

  • SGLT2 inhibitors are associated with reduced major kidney and cardiovascular events in chronic kidney disease patients.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists also demonstrate a similar reduction in major kidney and cardiovascular events.
  • The effectiveness of combining both therapies in this population remains unclear and requires further investigation.
