Combination therapy with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors was associated with a 40% reduction in mortality compared to SGLT2 inhibitor monotherapy.

  • Combination therapy did not show a mortality reduction compared to glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist monotherapy.
  • In patients receiving sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor monotherapy, combination therapy was linked to lower mortality.
  • Lower rates of atrial fibrillation and major adverse cardiovascular events were observed with combination therapy.
  • The mortality benefit of combination therapy was significant only in patients with heart failure or chronic kidney disease.
  • A potential signal for acute kidney injury was noted at 600 days in the overall population.
