What this is

  • This study assesses the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the Jordanian population regarding the use of and for weight loss.
  • A self-administered online questionnaire was distributed to gather responses from the public.
  • Results indicate a significant portion of the population is aware of these medications, yet many lack confidence in their knowledge and practices surrounding their use.

Essence

  • A majority of participants (57%) believe antidiabetic medications can aid in weight loss, but knowledge and attitudes towards their use are generally neutral. Only 12.3% have used these medications for weight loss.

Key takeaways

  • 57% of participants acknowledge the potential of antidiabetic medications for weight loss, indicating a growing interest in pharmacological interventions.
  • Knowledge about specific medications like Ozempic and Saxenda is relatively low, with only 47.27% and 44.55% recognizing their use for weight loss, respectively.
  • Despite the awareness, only 12.3% of participants reported using medications for weight loss, suggesting a gap between knowledge and actual practice.

Caveats

  • The study's reliance on self-reported data may introduce bias, affecting the accuracy of knowledge and practice assessments.
  • Most respondents were from central Jordan, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to the broader population.

Definitions
