GLP-1 Therapy and Recorded Heart or Breathing Failure in Non-Diabetic Adults with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Obesity

Abstract

Among 3483 matched patients, 0.7% of GLP-1 users experienced heart failure or respiratory failure events compared to 1.8% of never-users.

  • GLP-1-based therapy was associated with a lower hazard of first post-landmark ICD-10-documented heart failure or respiratory failure events.
  • The primary composite endpoint occurred in 23 out of 3176 GLP-1 users and 57 out of 3144 never-users during days 91-365.
  • The hazard ratio for GLP-1 users compared to never-users was 0.48, indicating a significant reduction in event risk.
  • Directionally similar associations were observed for heart failure and respiratory failure when analyzed separately.
  • Findings are preliminary and should not influence treatment decisions without further prospective validation.
