Long-Term Health Care Costs of Using GLP-1 Drugs Compared to Weight-Loss Surgery

Updated

Abstract

Bariatric metabolic surgery (BMS) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are effective interventions for obesity and type 2 diabetes.

  • Obesity and type 2 diabetes contribute significantly to global health issues and economic costs.
  • The long-term effects of BMS and GLP-1RAs on health care utilization costs are not fully known.
  • Both interventions may help manage obesity and diabetes, but their impact on overall health expenses is still under investigation.
