Timing of Melatonin Release at Home Linked to Treatment Follow-Through in Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder
Updated
Abstract
Eighty-three percent of home dim light melatonin onsets (DLMOs) were not affected by light or sampling errors.
- Thirty-two participants with delayed sleep phase disorder were assessed both at home and in a laboratory setting.
- Most participants (66%) experienced light exposure greater than 50 lux during home assessments, but this occurred for only 1.5% of the assessment time.
- Fifty-six percent of participants collected all saliva samples within 5 minutes of the scheduled times.
- Home DLMOs occurred on average 10.2 minutes earlier than laboratory DLMOs.
- A strong correlation was found between home DLMOs and laboratory DLMOs (r = 0.93, P < 0.001).
