Ideal heart health and resting heart rate in a diverse population study

Updated

Abstract

Among 6457 participants, favorable cardiovascular health (CVH) was linked to significantly lower odds of elevated resting heart rate (RHR).

  • Inadequate CVH was observed in 47% of participants, while 20% had optimal CVH.
  • Participants with optimal CVH had 45% lower odds of having RHR between 60-69 bpm compared to those with RHR <60 bpm.
  • The odds of having RHR of 70-79 bpm were reduced by 66% in individuals with optimal CVH.
  • For RHR ≥80 bpm, the odds were 86% lower in those with optimal CVH.
  • This association persisted across different sexes, races/ethnicities, and age groups.
