Abstract
Higher cardiovascular health scores were linked to a lower risk of new-onset type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases among 26,962 individuals with prediabetes.
- A higher score on Life's Essential 8 was associated with a reduced risk of adverse outcomes, with hazard ratios ranging from 0.26 to 0.72.
- Each 1-point increase in the LE8 score corresponded to a decreased risk of incident type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, with hazard ratios between 0.97 and 0.99.
- Low LE8 scores were attributed to a significant proportion of new cases, with 70.47% of incident type 2 diabetes and 45.12% of cardiovascular disease cases linked to this factor.
- A higher polygenic risk score was associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes, with hazard ratios ranging from 1.38 to 3.68.
- Individuals with low polygenic risk scores experienced greater benefits from high adherence to cardiovascular health metrics in relation to new-onset type 2 diabetes.
- Body mass index, blood pressure, and nicotine exposure were identified as the most significant contributors to the onset of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in the prediabetes stage.
