Updated
Abstract
The prevalence rates of Internet gaming disorder (IGD) among adolescents were found to be 1.6%, with 16.7% exhibiting suicidal behaviors.
- Adolescents with IGD showed a significantly higher risk for suicidality, with nearly 60% reporting suicidal behaviors.
- Among those with IGD, 50% reported experiencing suicidal ideation and 40% reported suicide attempts.
- Both IGD and gaming usage were independently linked to suicidal behaviors.
- Sleep disturbance was identified as a partial mediator in the relationship between IGD and suicidal behaviors, accounting for 47.0% of the total effect.
- Regular assessments for suicidality and sleep disturbance are recommended for adolescents with IGD.
