Abstract
Long-acting mimetics of gut hormones did not slow Alzheimer's disease progression in 5xFAD mice over 2 or 4 months.
- Both semaglutide and tirzepatide treatment resulted in lower body weight and improved glucose tolerance in mice.
- There were no measurable effects on memory, learning tasks, or amyloid-β plaque deposition from either incretin therapy.
- Chronic treatment with these drugs did not affect glial cell activation or slow neuropathological progression.
- In a separate model, 3 days of pre-treatment with incretins did not change microglial activation or inflammatory marker levels after LPS administration.
