Measuring psilocybin and psilocin levels in different Psilocybe cubensis mushroom strains using advanced chemical analysis

Abstract

The limit of detection for psilocybin was 1.5 ng/mL and for psilocin was 0.15 ng/mL.

  • A method for determining the potency of psilocybin and psilocin in Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms was developed using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry.
  • Five strains of dried mushrooms were analyzed, revealing varying average concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin.
  • The average total concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin ranged from 0.879% to 1.36% across different strains.
  • No significant matrix effects were observed when comparing signal responses in different mushroom samples.
  • Accuracy and precision of the method showed a percent error and relative standard deviation of less than 6% at all concentration levels.
