  • Transient synaptic enlargement in the nucleus accumbens core correlates with cue-induced drug seeking.
  • Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are necessary for the synaptic changes associated with drug cues.
  • β3-integrin signaling is involved in the activation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and cofilin during this process.
  • Increased phosphorylation of FAK and cofilin was observed in D1 neurons during cocaine seeking, but not in D2 neurons.
