Social jetlag linked to obesity traits in Dutch teenagers over one year

Updated

Abstract

Social jetlag was observed in 87% of adolescents aged 16 years, with a lower BMI noted in those experiencing it.

  • Only 13% of adolescents reported no social jetlag (≤1 hour).
  • Those with social jetlag of more than 1-2 hours had a higher BMI compared to those with no social jetlag.
  • The difference in BMI between groups was significant after adjusting for sex and other factors.
  • No significant associations were found between social jetlag and changes in obesity-related characteristics over a one-year period.
