Essence

SGLT2 inhibitor prescribing rose sharply across many type 2 diabetes subgroups in Japan from 2015 to 2024.

Evidence

This retrospective nationwide claims-database study tracked annual antidiabetic prescription rates by drug class and patient characteristics among adults with type 2 diabetes.

Caveat

The study describes prescribing patterns, not medication effectiveness or safety outcomes, and GLP-1 receptor agonist use remained comparatively low at 8.0% in 2024.
