Measuring trimethylamine-N-oxide, L-carnitine, and γ-butyrobetaine levels in human blood plasma
Updated
Abstract
An ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method was validated for quantifying trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) and related molecules in human blood plasma.
- The method allows simultaneous measurement of TMAO, L-carnitine, and γ-butyrobetaine in plasma samples.
- Quantification of TMAO was validated following US Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
- The technique was successfully applied to plasma samples from healthy volunteers.
- TMAO and its related molecules are of interest due to their potential implications in health.
