Glucagon-like peptide-1 drugs and heart health in obese patients with artery disease but no diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Among 14,844 patients with established cardiovascular disease and obesity, GLP-1 receptor agonist use was associated with a 68% lower risk of all-cause mortality.

  • GLP-1 receptor agonist use was linked to a lower risk of acute myocardial infarction.
  • There was a significant reduction in heart failure hospitalization associated with GLP-1 receptor agonist use.
  • No significant association was found between GLP-1 receptor agonist use and stroke risk.
  • The findings were consistent across different age groups and in sensitivity analyses including patients with diabetes.
