How Acting Out Dreams and Sleep Talking Relate to Death Risk in Parkinson’s Disease

Updated

Abstract

Subjects with RBD and frequent sleep talking had increased mortality risk, with a hazard ratio of 1.90.

  • Patients with RBD or frequent sleep talking exhibited more non-motor symptoms, including depression and hallucinations.
  • RBD alone did not show a significant association with mortality.
  • Frequent sleep talking, defined as talking in sleep at least once per week, was linked to higher mortality when adjusted for various factors.
  • Additional factors such as age, duration of Parkinson's disease, and lower BMI were also associated with increased mortality.
